NERACOOS work focuses around four priority areas:
- Ocean and coastal ecosystem health
- Maritime safety and security
- Ocean energy
- Coastal Hazards Resiliency
These areas were determined in part by our collaboration with the Northeast Regional Ocean Council (NROC), a regional ocean partnership for New England established at the recommendation of the 2004 U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy to "facilitate the development of regional goals and priorities and improve responses to regional issues."
Our partnering with NROC ensures that NERACOOS activities are directly tied to regional priorities and planning efforts. In keeping with this objective, NERACOOS has increased our emphasis on the effects of Climate Change each year to further support the regional priorities and issues.
